I did a group ride on mine not too long ago- mtn tires and everything. Carbon mountain bikes are pretty much road bikes when you air the tires up and stiffen the suspension. What bars did he run?

Just normal flat bars. Literally just put a CX disk wheelset on the bike. Its a pretty hilly race with some big climbs and gnarly descents so I was surprised his gear let him keep up. I think it was some kind of single ring setup he used for Windham I guess. Kinda funny though since he did it as a joke and woodshedded lots of regional NRC riders who take being JV pro super serious

Posted By: ScottSorry to change the topic but is anyone else watching the Olympic triathlon? I am, suck it. They're allowed to draft off each other, yet TT bikes aren't allowed- is this not how these races work? The race is fully controlled.Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy, but here's my number, so call me, maybe?

I assume you were watching the womens race. The commentating kills me. They need to upgrade their monitors. The crash corner was covered in wet leaves yet they blamed it on the paint. In the mens race the dude frome Canada crashed himself and another guy guy because he still had not put on his shoes when he hit the plywood ramp. They blamed it on the ramp. The 30 k mens point race was the best so far. You can watch it on nbcolympics.com replay. And what is up with Judo? The women looked like they were wresteling on Jerry Springer in bath robes. They should change the name to Olympic tripping.I am not bald, my hair is living in Reseda

I gotta do one more race to exchange my Cat5 n00b card for a Cat4 perma-fail card.

    Tolero Crits

I'm not in contention shape right now, but I think any crash-free Cat5 race is worth doing. Anyone got any experience with these events?

Dude, you can literally make up races to get your 4 in AZ. I made up 8/10 of my races to get mine and the coordinator approved like 2 hours after I sub'd it obviously hadn't even opened the file.

I don't think anything they said was based in reality. They spent like 10 minutes arguing about who was in the break at one point despite the fact that their own tracker said it was.

Nah I didn't get to. They go either way, but it usually seems that breaks go, but some team just sits on the front and blocks and then they fight to lead someone out. Doesn't happen as easily if its super tech. Watching the Air Force Classic I did notice that the top level pros literally never use their breaks.

This seems like a really weird move to me. On one hand Timmy Duggan has had a strong season and is with a big name squad as a reliable domestique, why would you want to go to a much smaller and lower profile team? But on the other, spidertech has said from the beginning that they want to build a world class program, and that will mean signing good talent to get there

Liquigas is basically imploding. So far I think everyone good aside from Sagan and Basso have transferred and I would not be surprised to see Sagan sign with a big named squad like Saxo Bank in the next few months here.

Duggan doesn't really have that many results to his name. Us as Americans think he's great because he worked hard in one race, ToC, and won nats. But look back at the history of nats and you'll see some names that never really went far past the domestic circuit with a ton of success. He's been good at a few races, but otherwise he'd be fairly anonymous and to most Europeans he probably is. Its sorta like riders moving to FDJ or Cofidis. I'm also not sure how a big World Tour team would really be able to use him in the bigger races either and not that many high dollar outfits are willing to waste a roster spot on a rider that has been a good domestique in some third tier week long stage races.

Freddy Rodriguez finished right behind him and is a sprinter. I dunno it was a tough stage, but there's not even any notable sprinters there to begin with besides him. Vuelta was great though and easily could be the best GT this year if it stays like this. The route makes for more exciting racing as well with shorter stages, time bonuses, and more genuine uphill finishes.

that finish in telluride was hilar. given that most of the big name sprinters are skipping the us pro challenge, it was kinda a no brainer that in a bunch sprint tyler farrar would take the stage. he was visibly emotional about the win even though it was his sprint to lose.sorry kdub. this better?

hilar to see DZ ralphing all over, that seemed to be the only good footage they captured. Weird coverage strarting so late into the stage and then having picture breakup most of the time and actually being able to hear the guys on the motorbikes yelling where to go and when to zoom in and out.

I don't get the way they've made the stages on these races, its almost stupid. Cool, so there's an 80km climb in the middle of the stage, but a sprint finish? Same shit last year. So they make the stages longer, but set the finishes after descents on almost all but 1 climb? With so much awesome real estate to work with they seem to focus more on number of feet climbed or total altitude gained when that doesn't make shit fun to watch.

So many Negative Nancys here. I still think that yesterday and now today's racing in ESP and CO was exciting to watch; I mean, really, how often do you see a ginger win anything?

And, Kdub, I am sure you know way more about bike racing than me so feel free to tell me I'm wrong; but I can only imagine what a logistical nightmare it is to organize a race, especially in the USA, where you probably receive little political/community support for interrupting people's right to drive. So I would guess that USA Pro organizers will take what they can get in terms of receiving permission for road closures and town hosting. Yes, you may not have as stacked a field as Spain; but you are still seeing some decent names and tough racing, IMO.

    Sincerely,

    Positive Polly

Positive post- check out 7th place, most likely going to Sky very shortly.

Prof.- I'm sure that could be part of it, but this race has some huge financial backing in some very cycling friendly communities. Again, not much point in a stage that's basically a 2%-3% grade for 90 miles and then a 1k finish. I know most riders use it as training for Worlds and/or because they're not on the Vuelta squad, but I guess I just wish that some of these big races could be more exciting given all the cool shit there is to ride here. Utah was billed as the 'hardest race', but when you take out the stats the action was fairly boring.

I watched it live and couldn't really tell who was right, but it seems like Sky actually gassed it before he crashed. Kinda lame though on their part b/c no one in the break was a GC threat and you bet your ass they knew over the radio that he had gone done.
