    I have this stem

    (25.4 clamp, 70mm)

and I want to put these handle bars on it

    (26.0 clamp)

Think I could safely pull this off? Give me your thoughts/experiences.

P.S. I am gonna go order them from Tempe Bike (on University), and obviously I'm going to go down there anyways to get an exact price, but would anyone happen to know a ballpark estimate of the cost? This is just me being lazy.

I've used 26 bars in 25.4 stems, but I don't know if all combos will work, a lot of threaded stems that don't have a 2 piece clamp system work, because the stem wraps around and can change a bitloca$h Crime Family. ct- tcan is the only real man among us

not sure on that stem, it may not flex enough to support the extra girth(expecting some awesome edits here) without putting too much stress on the front clamp piece.loca$h Crime Family. ct- tcan is the only real man among us

And just a suggestion, but maybe put subject of what your thread pertains to, in the title. Like "clamp diameter question", rather than "would this work fine?". It makes searching this site much easier. Just trying to help.

It won't be good for the bar or the stem, or your teeth if it breaks. The edges of the stem clamp will damage the bar as you tighten it and there will be two gaps, one between the stem and the bar and another between the faceplate and the bar. Like T-can said, it can sometimes be done on a threaded stem that's all one piece, but even then you usually end up damaging the bar and bending the stem bolt.

Stems are cheap, get the right one, or trade that one to someone with the opposite problem.

Then again, when in doubt, angle grinder.
